In homage to the Williams FW15C CVT, this car represents one of the most experimental and innovative iterations of the legendary FW15C. The FW15C itself was already a technological marvel, but the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) version aimed to push the boundaries even further by replacing the traditional gearbox. The CVT offered the potential for smoother power delivery and enhanced efficiency by seamlessly adjusting the engine’s powerband without the need for conventional gear shifts.
The goal was to give Williams a competitive edge with the promise of flawless acceleration and improved fuel management. However, the CVT system encountered reliability issues, preventing it from reaching its full potential on the track. As a result, the FW15C CVT never made it to a Grand Prix. In the end, the use of CVT and similar advanced technologies was banned in future seasons, but the FW15C CVT remains a fascinating example of Formula 1's pursuit of cutting-edge engineering.
